During my university placement studying Event Management, I’ve been lucky enough to join High 5 Events, where I’m learning what it really takes to plan and deliver successful events. Recently, I had the chance to assist at my first onsite event, a cycle meeting held at The Meliá White House, a stunning hotel and meeting venue in London.

Preparing for the Event
In the lead-up to the event, I supported the team by printing and organising key documents, preparing equipment, and helping ensure everything was ready for the two-day meeting.
Onsite Experience
While onsite, I had the pleasure of assisting Sophie, the onsite Event Lead. Together, we worked closely with both the AV company and the hotel team to coordinate the setup and ensure everything ran smoothly. I also assisted the clients with registration, check-in, navigation, and any other requests they had during the event.

The first day was a great success, and it was so rewarding to see all the team’s hard work come to life. After the meeting concluded, Sophie and I guided the guests to their evening activities, a trip to Swingers for some friendly mini golf competition, followed by dinner at The Ivy Soho. It was lovely to see everyone relax, enjoy some drinks, and share laughs after a busy day of learning and collaboration.

Day Two & Reflections
The second day continued just as successfully, with positive feedback from the client throughout. Seeing the event come together so well was an incredible experience and a real highlight of my placement so far.

This opportunity has given me a valuable insight into what it’s like to help manage a live event, from behind-the-scenes coordination to client interaction and problem-solving in real time. I’m so grateful to Sophie, Louise, and the High 5 Events team for their guidance and support, and I can’t wait to get involved in the next one!
